Light car specialists
Suzuki’s record sales year in 2010 has resulted in the compact car specialist finishing number one for private sales in the light car segment.
Analysis of the final VFACTS data revealed private sales of the Suzuki Swift and Alto were ahead of Hyundai’s Getz and i20 and the Toyota Yaris.
Suzuki’s total private light car sales figure of 14,042 was 165 clear of Toyota (13,877) and 870 ahead of Hyundai (13,172).
“These figures confirm Suzuki is the vehicle of choice for light car buyers shopping with their own money,” said Suzuki Australia General Manager Tony Devers.
Of Suzuki’s total light car sales, a whopping 86 per cent were purchased by private buyers, compared to 64 per cent for Toyota and 55 per cent for Hyundai.
Devers said the success in the fastest growing segment in the country came from a brand offering an outstanding variety for private customers.
“It starts with the Alto GL – standard with six airbags and ESP – up to the rally born and bred Suzuki Swift.”
Devers said the strong performance of the Swift in 2010 laid a great foundation for the new model, due next month.
“Swift has always represented a class-leading buy. The new model, with seven airbags and ESP as standard and fuel economy of just 5.5 litres per 100 km, is sure to keep Suzuki as the light vehicle manufacturer of choice for private buyers.”
